It’s been a pretty intense week for indie music fans. News of today’s most respected artists lending their talents to the big screen has been popping up all over the place. The bombshell that Bon Iver may be contributing to the New Moon soundtrack sent shockwaves through the crowds, and left most of his fans surprised, to say the least.
More importantly, though, reports emerged this weekend from the most unexpected venue. During Comic-Con in San Diego, the crowd was given a taste of what’s speculated to be the soundtrack to the much-awaited Spike Jonze masterpiece Where The Wild Things Are.
Jonze’s adaptation of the beloved Maurice Sendak classic has been creating hype since its first theatrical trailer hit the web in late March, 2009. The two-minute clip immediately struck a chord with the indie crowd. It was set to Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up.”
For months there was much speculation about those involved in the soundtrack production, until it was revealed that Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs was the leader of the creative pack. Other notable characters include producer Squeak-E Clean (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, N.A.S.A.) and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter, Atlas Sound).
According to a July 24 article by The Playlist, at Comic-Con, fans got a chance to view the exclusive featurette (now available at Apple.com). The featurette focuses on Jonze, Sendak and co-scriptwriter Dave Eggers. But the acoustic backing laced through the three blissful minutes of the clip has everyone buzzing. Indeed, it is the first taste of the score, and Karen O is already getting rave notices.
Drenched in the talent expected from this group of artists, it seems like Where the Wild Things Are will be a sure success (not that there was ever any doubt about that).

I was almost on the floor when I first saw the video in March. Really looking forward to seeing the full details of the soundtrack come out. Part of me would just love Funeral being the entire soundtrack.
