Panda Bear's Person Pitch is #14 on 20 Watts' Best of the Decade List

Part of 20 Watts’ Best of the Decade Coverage!

RELEASED: 2007
TOP TRACK: “Comfy in Nautica”

Person Pitch is an electronic album, yes, but Panda Bear makes the synthesizers and the samples that dominate it feel organic, tribal and ultimately, ancient. We’d expect no less from the third solo effort of Animal Collective mastermind Noah Lennox. There are moments on this album when it seems like a dialogue with the entire history of music: the way the grinding machines give way to chanting on “Comfy in Nautica” and the breakdown at the end of “Bros.” It’s a marriage of psychadelia and electronica, ancient and modern, tribal and urban. Person Pitch is the sound of a new musical language being invented, and it’s a wonderful sound at that.
