Yes, they broke up in 1997. But Cocteau Twins are still worth a listen. The Scottish trio was often overshadowed by the bizarre vocal stylings of lead singer Elizabeth Frazer.

“Carolyn’s Fingers,” one of my favorite songs by the band, really showcases Frazer’s almost yoddle-like crooning. It’s a bit strange and it’s not for the musically skiddish, but stick with it. You can feel a mix of pain and hope in the songs meandering arrangement.

But you should really get the original off the 1988 album Blue Bell Knoll.
