If, like me, you’ve grown sick of the overproduction that mars the work of many artists today, look no further than Karl Blau to provide a gentle kick of whimsical lo-fi-ness.

Hailing from a small town in northern Washington, Blau’s raw, laid-back and winsome folk-rock and DIY approach to his songs is pure Pacific Northwest (and as a fellow Northwesterner, I would know).  Though his first CD was released last year, it’s the release of Nature’s Got Away in September that should at least spread Blau’s fame beyond the rain-soaked oases of Portland and Seattle. Check out my favorite track, the charming “Mockingbird Diet” on Blau’s MySpace page.

Sure, the production could be tighter, the saxophones smoother, and the percussion sharper. But where’s the fun in that?
