So this weekend something surprising made it’s way through my car speakers: Eminem’s Encore. His 2008 album is coming out in December….and I’m so freakin stoked after listening to Encore.

Wow, I just typed that about Eminem. But I’m serious! That album has so many relieving and well-delivered lyrics, so many great puns and is mostly full of dark, haunting chords. There’s the gross goofy Eminem in there, sure, but it’s got some punchlines that  hit you pretty hard. His delivery is so unique and though he’s kind of annoying on the ears you can’t help but listen to what he’s saying.

When I checked his Web page for information, the taglin under the Google link said “The rise and fall of Eminem in the 21st century.” According to his confirmation of the album’s recording, he asked if it would be goofy or warcky. He said “Both. The whole range. You know, Michael Jordan was supposed to play basketball. Floyd Mayweather was meant to box. And Eminem was meant to rap.”

Not a bad philosophy if you’re a professional rapper. Anyway, I’m curious to see what he comes up with. It’ll be great to hear some new lines from a voice that’s a familiar and well-established role in the rap scene–and with a title like “Relapse” I’m hopin for some more of that bloodletting emotional and dark dramatic chords. Killer.
