The Spirit of Apollo – N.A.S.A.

N.A.S.A. is a pair of beat junkie producers who obsess over Brazilian and South American samples. Their debut into the music scene is superb. There is not much more they could have done to make it better. An eclectic mix of soul, techno, hip-hop and rock adds a whole other element to this album. Although these genres are fairly different, the album flows beautifully and there’s not a lot of repetition between tracks. Another thing that helps the album along is the number of guest appearances. From Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan to David Byrne of Talking Heads. The emcee- singer mix is incredible and everybody has brought their best game to this album.

My favorite track combines funk, soul and hip-hop to create a beautiful pocket that could only be replicated by the best James Brown band. “There’s A Party” features George Clinton (Parliament Funkadelic) and Chali 2na (Jurassic 5) who combine their equally amazing singing and rapping styles to dance around flowing organs and bouncing drums. This track epitomizes the magic that happens when artists collaborate and cooperate to form a perfect union.

This album is a great break out record. I hope that these two can continue to take it to the house and bring us all back to hip-hop- the way it should be. Every rapper is in their element. If you’re looking for an intro into the amazing world of hip-hop, put this at the top of your list.

Best Track: “There’s A Party”

We’re Both In Love With A Sexy Lady” – Flight of the Conchords (Single)

The hilarious duo is back and in full throttle. Their new track takes on  more of an R&B influence and just bops along.  The story involves accidentally falling in love with the same “sexy lady”. The  song is a parody of “Same Girl” by Usher and R. Kelly. The incredibly amusing lyrics force you to smile. This is not one of the best tracks Flight of the Conchords has done but it shows that they’re not going away without a fight.
