It’s never easy to accept your best days are behind you, but I’m ready to accept now my best music days are behind me. I was a bassist, and played in two bands–Raw Sugar in Marin County, CA and Kevin Spacey is a Good Actor in Syracuse, NY.
I only ended being a bassist by process of elimination back in the 8th grade, but in the end, I was more a bassist than any other kind of musician. I was tall, shy and deep-voiced, so it must have been destiny, said my red-headed friend Gordon Jacobs years ago.
Yes, news is slow again today, but I thought writing about past rocks bands was a theme others could relate to–especially if you love music as much as we do here at 20 Watts.
This video is a clip (two years ago) of Kevin Spacey is a Good Actor’s hit single, Happy Pills, and it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. Yes, it was Relay for Life, and people just walked by the stage because they had to, but we had a small crowd supporting us. It was an 8-song set filled with a few originals and covers by Oasis, Ashley Simpson and Death Cab for Cutie. We knew we weren’t great, but we got up there, played our set, and took it on like champions. That’s the most anyone could say about us.
Anyway, the moral of this story is to never forget those days of jamming with your friends in your garage. Doing something because you love it without caring about how good you are is a quality people should hold onto for their rest of their lives. Call it cliche, but people tend to over think everything they do, and that always ends up holding them back. Take this video for example, and see what acting on your impulses gets you—sometimes it gets you a nice little memory of rocking out on stage with your friends beside you, having fun.
