There is a new wave of live radio on the web. At Spot The Night Radio, DJs can now host their own live music shows. While posting streaming video of their turntables, DJs like DJ SWERVE from Boston University maintain a live chat with their listeners, who discuss the music and make requests.

DJ SWERVE, like other DJs on the site, plays his own mixes of reggae, reggaeton, dancehall, hip-hop, techno and pop songs from his dorm room at BU using Ustream live TV. He has a large SU audience and constantly gives shoutouts to SU during his show.

More interactive than conventional radio, streaming video allows DJs like DJ SWERVE to respond directly to listeners’ chat posts.  DJs can also post their playlist on this chat, so listeners can find and later download the songs they hear on the site.
