PREVIEW: WATCH Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” being played on Audiosurf & DEMO Audiosurf
Everyone has played Guitar Hero at least once in their lifetime. Sure, it’s a heaping ball of fun the first few times but once you start replaying Muse‘s “Knights of Cydonia” because it’s the only track you can stand to listen to, the flame can burn out pretty quickly. Presumably, the one wish of the most avid players is a more personalized track listing to strum along to.
Well, fear not, because Audiosurf is sure to bring a smile to all deflated GH players. It’s a simple concept actually: the player controls a rocket (via computer mouse) and tries to run into colored blocks as it quickly glides along a Mario Kart Rainbow Road-esque track. The sweetest part of the deal is the fact that the player can upload their entire music library onto the game, thus enabling them to zoom through the galaxy to whatever song they want. The game is quite advanced considering it will change colors, shapes, and speeds depending on the mood of each song.
Although the game will cost you–$10 to be exact–it is honestly worth every penny. My first Audiosurf ride was with Daft Punk‘s “Digital Love” and it was probably the most enjoyable gaming experience I have ever had. If you don’t find the need to cough up a Hamilton for a computer game, there is also a demo available for download. Oh, and did I mention it’s only available for Windows? Ugh, the one time it doesn’t pay off to be a Mac…
