Kesha's "Tik Tok" finally gets put to use in this awesome mashup.

LISTEN: “$hwagger Jagger” Ludacris v. Kesha (Pres Mash)

Ludacris strikes again! Rarely does a mashup flow so smoothly with another track like “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha. The DJ really stepped it up, and I can say this is the best “Tik Tok” mix I’ve ever heard. Twerkshop remixed this same Ludacris track, and it bounces just as hard. The man’s still got it! You know Kesha is gonna be featured in DJ Earworm’s “United State of Pop 2010.” I like how his end-of-the-year remixes have become a spectacle to look forward to.

Skybox mashes with OMC and Ludacris in light, fun mashup by Mr. F.

LISTEN: “Bizarre Dream Roll Out” by DJ Mr. F

It’s hot out in Syracuse today, and what better way to enjoy the sunshine than some fun summer-style mashups?? Sip on this spicy, warm mashup by DJ Mr. F, featuring Skybox, Ludacris and OMC. It’s such a nice blend of zippy guitar, brass and hip-hop. Seriously, I just want to sit in a lawn chair and hold a margarita while listening to this jam. What I love about it is that it doesn’t force itself into a club thing–it just sticks to a chill vibe the entire time. Anyone else having hot flashbacks of Sugar Ray on MTV?

Pregame with this Miike Snow remix before tonight's show

PREVIEW THE DJ: Benny Blanco’s MySpace

LISTEN: “Burial” by Miike Snow (Benny Blanco Remix)

I admit straight off that I’m not the biggest Miike Snow fan, but that doesn’t mean I can’t like a remix of their work, like this Benny Blanco piece. I’m going to tonight’s Miike Snow concert in the Schine Underground at 8 p.m., and I figured why not do a search for the best Miike Snow remix—and voila! The remix still doesn’t turn Miike Snow into a heart-pumping club artist, but it adds some creatively light-hearted elements you don’t see enough in Miike Snow. I always got a moody vibe from Miike Snow, and this remix makes the music seem more light on its feet.

On an unrelated side note: how funny is it that just after Delorean bailed out of opening for Miike Snow, they’re the hot indie artists of the week on music blogs? Irony’s a bitch.

Also, stay tuned for post-coverage of tonight’s concert!

M.I.A. mashes with Wale's "Chillin."

LISTEN: “Chillin on a Plane” by Brand -X (Wale/Lady Gaga/M.I.A.)

Brand-X is a London based DJ, who from what I’ve heard is pretty new, and for some reason I can’t find his webpage/Facebook fan page/MySpace. Aside from his relative obscurity, I really love how he uses M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” beat in mashing with Wale’s “Chillin.” It’s one of those mash-ups that’s just fun to listen to rather than admire. It’s not a legendary mix, but it’s nice for what it is. It’s like watching a fun chick flick compared to sitting down for a serious Roman Polanski film–if you follow the analogy. If nothing else, it just gets me more excited for M.I.A.’s new album coming out this year.

Mix Fix: The Drake “Over” Remix Sweepstakes (POLL) by tjwell01

Drake's new single "Over" is hot remix material, but which one is the best?

In further honor of the Drake Block Party concert coming up in a matter of weeks, let’s keep the love-fest flowing. In this Mix Fix, I’m going to try something different. I want readers to jump in and tell me which remix they like out of my top three candidates for best remix of Drake’s “Over.” I like all of them, and they all have different great qualities. I found it funny searching through all the remixes that most DJs couldn’t find a beat that matched up well with Drake’s awkward chorus in “Over.” It’s completely out of rhythm, so the good remix DJs are forced to slow or speed up his words. So keep in mind when voting that good remixes retain the soul of the song being remixed. So, who’s the winner?

Peepholes is an experimental pop sensation waiting to blow.

PREVIEW THE DJ AND THE BAND: E*Rock’s MySpace and Peepholes’ MySpace

LISTEN: “Lair” by Peepholes (E*Rock Remix)

If you like Ratatat‘s electric guitar loops and Wavves’ lo-fi blurry pop sound, then this remix might fit your needs. These Brits are a highly experimental pop duo that really loves using mechanical sound and lo-fi/garage rock mixed with synth-pop choruses, and this song keeps sticking around. The original “Lair” track isn’t as filtered as the remix by E*Rock, so I chose the remix over the original since the rhythm tends to get swamped by the muffled high-pitch vocals. If there’s an consistent theme in experimental rock groups, it’s that any sound has a chance, and these guys have enough pop to make some serious noise later on.

I really respect Ratatat's gritty touch in this Knife remix

PREVIEW THE DJ: Ratatat’s MySpace

LISTEN: “We Share Our Mother’s Health” By The Knife (Ratatat Mix)

This one is a bit stale, I must be honest, but I couldn’t ignore it any longer. It’s not a heavy club jam nor is it an over-produced mash-up, it’s just The Knife with some smooth bass rhythm and some classic Ratatat electronic guitar loops, and it’s more than enough. It’s more of a stomp-your-boot-kind-of-jam than a bump-your-hips-kind-of-jam, granted. Remixes can be subtle and not overly synthed-out crashers like what Steve Aoki is amazing at. It’s not like you can’t dance to it, because it’s still Ratatat for crying out loud. Show some respect, people. It’s just really well-produced and I tip my hat.
