N*E*R*D* bring their Virginia Beech style to Syracuse
PREVIEW: VISIT N*E*R*D*’s MySpace
After being very secretive about their “special mystery act” University Union announced today that Shay Haley, Chad Hugo, and music superstar Pharrell Williams— N*E*R*D*— will perform at Block Party 2010. N*E*R*D* will join headliner Drake and opening acts Francis and the Lights, and K-OS for the concert which is scheduled for Friday, April 30th at The Carrier Dome. N*E*R*D* will bring an interesting element to this year’s Block Party. Their energetic rock/ hip-hop style will definitely get the crowd warmed up for Drake.
Online pre-sale tickets will go on sale tomorrow through suathletics.com at 10 a.m. for SU and SUNY-ESF students only. With a valid SU or SUNY-ESF I.D. these tickets will be $18. Tickets for the general public will go on sale starting Tuesday, March 16 at 10 a.m. These tickets will be available at the Carrier Dome Box office or through Ticketmaster.com; they will cost $25.

PREVIEW: Miike Snow’s MySpace
The Daily Orange broke the news this morning that the Bandersnatch concert series announced its first concert this semester—Miike Snow. As some of you know, UU was targeting Miike Snow with the survey they put out at the beginning of the year. It’s not a bad selection, to be honest, but this news makes you think more about that mystery act at Block Party. Delorean, a Spanish electro-pop group, will open up for Miike Snow and I’m a little more excited for these guys. Either way, it’s going to be a synthesizer-heavy show in the Schine Underground at 8 p.m.

Ithaca concert promoter, Dan Smalls, announced on Twitter that OK Go will perform in Ithaca, NY at The Haunt on April 25th
PREVIEW: OK Go’s MySpace
Local Ithaca, NY concert promoter, Dan Smalls, announced on Twitter that OK Go will perform in the city on April 25th, open to all ages. The venue was later announced as The Haunt. Dan Smalls is well-known for bringing in quality talents to the small Central New York culture hub. Last time I saw a Dan Smalls concert, St. Vincent played at Castaways. I say it again: this semester’s concert season keeps getting better. OK Go is absolutely electric live, and I will undoubtedly see this show.

PREVIEW: Drake’s MySpace
The Spring 2010 concert season keeps getting better—maybe. According to his MySpace, personal website and Billboard, Drake will be playing at “private location” in Syracuse, NY on April 30. He’s on a college tour, “Away from Home,” so it’s not completely crazy to think he’ll be coming to Syracuse University at that date. Nick Cicero, an SU grad student and producer signed to the same company as Drake’s producer, Neenyo, said Drake is “supposed to be coming,” but it isn’t “uber-official” yet.
Of course, this all could change as we get closer to the date. Don’t give your hopes up, but the hottest indie rapper could be coming soon.
Stay tuned for updates later.

While waiting for MNDR to open up before tonight’s much anticipated YACHT concert at Hamilton College, Travis Rosenblatt, a representative from the Campus Activities Board, passed along some amazing news: Passion Pit, The Dirty Projectors AND Dan Deacon are scheduled to perform at the school on May 7th at 2 p.m.. The school doesn’t even know about this yet, but they’ll find out soon like the rest of Central New York. It’s an all-star lineup and shouldn’t be anything short of spectacular. Excited yet?

LISTEN: YACHT’s “Psychic City”
According to MNDR’s Twitter, apparently there has been a last minute switch in their tour with YACHT — they’re stopping by Hamilton College at “The Barn” in Clinton, NY tonight at 8:00. “Hey so MNDR is not playing Southpaw tonight. MNDR is playing at Hamilton College in somewhere NY. stay gold.” Time to carpool people, because Hamilton College is only 55 minutes away from Syracuse, NY. Bring your spandex and your Wayfarers, because it will be a sweet dance party. Get it!
