New Manchester Orchestra, “Mean Everything To Nothing” (2009) by Trevor Kiv

manchester-orchestrajpgApparently this fresh selection of cuts from Athens, GA natives Manchester Orchestra has been on the streets for a minute or two. Still hasn’t hit the stores yet (April 21). The follow-up effort to their debut, I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child (2006), this album is certain to satisfy fans of Brand New, or any music along that spectrum of the indie rock persuasion. Not exactly my cup of tea, but feel free to drop us a line and tell me how wrong I am!

I would probably sell a (large) piece of my soul for the opportunity to see this weekend’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in southern CA.  The three-day festival features approximately two-thirds of the bands I’d really like to see live, plus a bunch of up-and-coming artists we’ve featured on the blog and in the magazine.  Jack Johnson, Death Cab, the Verve, the Raconteurs, the Breeders and My Morning Jacket are among the headliners, and Hot Chip, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective and Architecture in Helsinki are all playing smaller acts.

I’m personally pretty excited for the Manchester Orchestra/Stars back-to-back sets on Sunday.  Those, among others, will be available via AT&T later in the weekend.  In the meantime, download this Coachella mix from I am Fuel, You are Friends and attempt to bury your West Cost jealousy.
